Isuzu announces world premiere of next-generation FC route bus ¡°ERGA FCV¡± ¨C Bus with new power source to help achieve carbon neutrality ¨C
Isuzu Motors Limited (headquartered in Yokohama, Kanagawa, Japan; President and COO: Shinsuke Minami; hereinafter ¡°Isuzu¡±) will unveil the world premiere of its next-generation fuel cell (FC) route bus ¡°ERGA FCV¡± (reference exhibit) at the JAPAN MOBILITY SHOW 2025, to be held at Tokyo Big Sight (Koto-ku, Tokyo) from Thursday, October 30 to Sunday, November 9. It will be exhibited as part of one of the show¡¯s main programs, Tokyo Future Tour 2035.

The ERGA FCV is being jointly developed by Isuzu and Toyota Motor Corporation (headquartered in Toyota, Aichi, Japan; President: Koji Sato; hereinafter ¡°Toyota¡±). Isuzu is responsible for the planning, development, and design of the vehicle body, while Toyota is in charge of the development of the FC system. Based on the urban model of the ERGA EV, a BEV*1 flat-floor route bus launched by Isuzu last year, the new model integrates Toyota¡¯s FC system and hydrogen tanks compactly into the roof structure. This design maintains the fully flat-floor design of the ERGA EV, achieving a barrier-free layout and significantly improving passenger convenience and safety.
The ERGA FCV generates electricity by inducing a chemical reaction between hydrogen stored in its tanks and oxygen from the air within the FC stack*2. The electricity produced by this reaction powers the vehicle¡¯s motor. One of the challenges faced by BEVs, the long time required for energy replenishment, is greatly reduced in FCVs*3, which use hydrogen as their fuel, as hydrogen refueling can be completed much more quickly. Furthermore, in addition to offering low vibration and quiet operation similar to BEVs, the ERGA FCV produces zero CO2 emissions while driving, emitting only water vapor, thereby significantly reducing environmental impact.
In its mid-term business plan, Â鶹Íø Transformation ¨C Growth to 2030 (IX), Isuzu is committed to carbon-neutral solutions as one of its key challenges for new business development. Through collaboration with a wide range of partners, Isuzu aims to propose new mobility options and advance carbon neutrality through a multi-pathway approach.
